The Alchemy of Chaos

What is chaos?  What does chaos feel like?

Chaos is messy. Chaos is a disintegration of structures. It’s a lack of organization.

Sometimes people come see me because they’re in a state of chaos – even if it’s not described in such terms.

The chaos can be physical: their body not doing what it “should” be doing. Something’s gone haywire. They are off their rhythm, they are out of synch.

The chaos can be situational: Structures in their life are majorly disrupted. Epic states of change. Transitions.

The chaos can be emotional: feeling anxious and not knowing why. Feeling anxious and *knowing* why. Experiencing aftershocks of events.

The chaos can be all three.

I think a lot about this. I think a lot about how chaos inherently brings the potential for creation.

Clearly I think about it with the body & psyche as I’ve mentioned – how things can be & feel in a state of chaos, and how acupuncture & Chinese Medicine can help re-organize us.

I also see it in the creative process. I have done a lot of acting in my life (I mean professionally speaking, more-so prior to my acupuncturist life but still on occasion.) And it’s pretty much par for the course that rehearsals reach this peak of chaos & mess & how-is-this-all-going-to-come-togetherness… and then boom: by force of will, the team comes together for the final surge and something beautiful is born.

Birth can be a chaotic process.

And astrologically, especially this last year or so, I’ve thought a lot about the chaos that’s ensued, and the potential to create from this state.

This week astrologically we have a Sun-Pluto opposition – exact on Saturday 17th but felt a few days before and after.

Pluto in Capricorn is the disintegration of current structures – collectively but also personally. Our sun is evolution and the creative process. Together we embark on a molecular transformation in relation to our deep-seated patterns and experiences of care. A molecular transformation in the structures or relationships in our lives that allow or don’t allow a safe space for expressing our vulnerability in order to receive that which we need.

This process can be chaotic. Pluto-Sun combos can bring to light power struggles both externally and internally. It can bring major changes – but often through amplification of subtly. Ultimately, though, Pluto is energizing. It gives us that surge of power and the will to create meaningful change out of the chaos.

Be gentle on yourselves this week. Be brave in self-compassion as you navigate this transformation.
