Coix Seed Recipe

​My TCM Breakfast Obsession: ?? ?? ??? porridge ?⁣

?? ?? ??? has many names: Croix Seed, Job’s Tears, Chinese pearled barley, Yi Mi⁣

It’s an herb in Chinese Medicine that’s used in many formulas to help to ?????? ??? ????????? ?????? and ?????? ???????? in the body. And it’s gluten-free ?? ⁣

I’ll have to write another post on what ‘????????’ is, but think: congestion, mucous, cysts, pus, tumours. For additional symptoms, think: feeling lethargic, bloating, loose stools, sinus congestion, brain fog.⁣

Many foods are used as herbs in TCM (food is medicine) and this is one of them.⁣

You cook Yi Yi Ren like rice; I make mine in the insta pot.⁣

Here’s the recipe – along with the benefits!⁣

? 1 cup Yi Yi Ren – ??????????? ??? ????????? ??????, ?????? ????????⁣

? 10 Da Zao (Chinese red dates, pits removed. See my previous post about ?? ??? to learn more!) – ???????? ??? ?????? ??, ?????? ?????⁣

? Handful of walnuts – ???????? ??? ?????? ?????? & ??? ?????⁣

? 2 tbsp chia seeds – ??? ????? ??, ???????, ??? ?????⁣

? 1 tbsp coconut oil – ?????? ???⁣

? 3 cups vanilla almond milk (or 1/2 almond milk, 1/2 water)⁣

Optional toppings:⁣

? A sprinkle of hemp hearts (optional) – which in TCM support ??????? ?????, but they are also a source of ??????? ????, ??? ??? ? ????? ????? ???????.⁣

? Ground flax seeds – ?????? & ????? ?????⁣

? drizzle of almond milk⁣

Put everything but the optional toppings in the insta pot (you could add the walnuts after but I find them easier to digest when cooked in – or a bit of both). Cook on pressure cook setting for 9 min. Let sit 15min before opening the lid.⁣

Freezes well for quick breakfasts too.
